The easiest way to fix a leaking washer water valve is to replace the o-rings or bushings. This is an easy fix and involves turning off water, disassembling the valve, and replacing the old worn out o-rings, bushings, or Teflon rings. The most common reason for a leaking washing machine water valve is loose hose connections or worn out o-ringsbushings.
NOTE There are various types of washer shut-off valves. This page will help you to better understand the different types of valves and how to fix a leak yourself. See the images and videos below for the different types of valves that may be behind your washing machine.
First, check to be sure the water hoses are tight. Also check the o-rings in the water hoses where the hose screws onto the valve. Make sure the water hose o-rings are smooth and not ripped, broken, or too compressed. If the hoses are not leaking and the leak is coming directly from the valve itself, then replacing the o-rings should fix the leak. If the water valve has a crack in it, then it cannot be repaired. If you do find an actual crack in the valve itself, it will need to be removed and replaced.

The washing machine in your home is fed by two water valves. One supplies cold water and the other supplies hot. These valves should be replaced anytime they start leaking so the water coming from them does not damage your walls or floor. Although you can repair these valves, it generally is less.
Quickly identify hot and cold water lines with these red or blue valves. The low-profile elbow shape and small handle are made to fit into tight spaces, such as plumbing outlet boxes sold separately. Connect the NHNST threads to a water hose on a washing machine or commercial plumbing fixture.. Valves with a solder-connect inlet are used for copper water lines.
A washing machine is not an appliance that is often moved around the house. The machine is usually found in the basement, in a dedicated laundry room, or in the garage, and that is where it stays for most of its life. There are times when the washing machine will need to be moved, however. When the machine is being replaced, or moved to a new home, it will need to be disconnected from the hoses and wires that supply it with power and water. These instructions will guide you through the both the process of disconnecting your machine and getting it ready to move out of its usual location.
To disconnect a washing machine, turn off the water valves located behind the washing machine by turning them clockwise. Next, pull the machine away from the wall and unplug it. Place a bucket behind the machine to catch water drainage, then turn the ends of the hoses counterclockwise to detach them from the wall. You may need pliers to loosen them Then, remove the drain hose to complete the disconnection. For tips on moving a disconnected washing machine, read onDid this summary help youYesNo.
Its not uncommon for a brand new shut-off valve to leak around the handle area whenever you turn it on. is probably occurring around the water valve stem. The water valve stem passes through a packing nut and washer, which provide a watertight seal. In the old days, fiber was packed tightly around the stem, hence the name.
First try tightening the packing nut one-eighth to one-quarter turn with a wrench. On a new water valve, this almost always stops the leak. If it doesnt, the packing washer is probably damaged and will need replacement.
Heres how. First shut off the water to the leaking water valve. Next remove the handle from the stem and then loosen and remove the packing nut. Remove the old washer and slide on the new one. Reinstall the packing nut, tighten lightly with a wrench dont over tighten at this or any other point and reattach the handle. Turn the water back on, open the repaired water valve and check for leaks. If its leaking, tighten the packing nut one-eighth of a turn at a time until the leak stops.
To replace the packing washer, remove the handle and packing nut.
